The Auburn Leather™ Brand was born in 1985, when father/daughter duo of Joe Richard Howlett and Lisa Jo Howlett, teamed up to acquire a portion of the assets of Caldwell Lace Leather Co. – the company originally founded by their ancestor, George Washington Caldwell (the great grandfather of Joe Howlett and great-great grandfather of Lisa Howlett).

Located on the site of the original Maple Park Tannery, founded by Mr. Caldwell in 1863, the Auburn Leather Company began producing western tack equipment at its inception. Soon thereafter, the company entered the leather lace business and quickly became a leading supplier of leather laces to the casual footwear industry.

Consistent with the legacy that began almost 150 years ago, Auburn Leather™ products are still handcrafted with skill and care, using only the best materials, to produce components and accoutrements that are built to last – much like old family traditions!
