What do we mean when we say “genuine” leather laces?
We start with the best US dairy cow hides available. In our family’s experience, approaching 150 years, we’ve found that dairy hides produced in the US climate naturally consist of just the right thickness for laces – avoiding any significant splitting of the hide and thereby allowing the hides to retain their natural strength. These superior hides are then tanned using a proprietary lace formula, which reinforces their natural strength by facilitating a more tightly knit fiber structure and produces laces that are also supremely colorfast and crock resistant. That’s what we call genuine.
“A lace is only as good as the leather from which it is cut.”
- G.W. Caldwell, founder and master tanner
